There are very few things that can have a more severe impact on one's self esteem than the suffering of an acne inflammatory disorder. This is only one of the effects of the heartbreak of acne. With the majority of sufferers being teenagers it impacts heavily on their already fragile adolescent stage.

The outbreak normally occurs at puberty when the body starts producing extra hormones that soon cause an oil build-up in the skin. The presence of bacteria leads to the development of pimples and the teenager's living nightmare. The psychological effects that may occur can have devastating results in the long run.

As a perfect body image has unfortunately become a major player in today's society acne sufferers are faced with an even bigger challenge. Facial outbreaks can cause embarrassment and self confidence may take a heavy blow. For a teen this is exceptionally hard as it is a time when relationships with the opposite sex are formed and developed.

Adolescents in general find it emotionally challenging to cope out of fear of being ridiculed or mocked and would rather keep to him/herself. In this way there would be less confrontation and the feelings of embarrassment. Some may resort to bunking school or college until the condition has been reasonably cleared.

Depression is one of the most tragic heartbreaks of acne and affected teens should be carefully watched when showing signs of this destructive condition. Changes in behavior and constant mood swings are some indications. Loss of appetite and expressions of unworthiness must not be overlooked by concerned adults.

Serious doubts have occurred about the effectiveness of conventional antibiotic medications for acne. Research has discovered that side effects such as headaches, heart problems, jaundice and arthritis can be linked with certain treatments. Yeast infections also occur in woman who use the treatment. The antibiotic has been found to eliminate the natural bacteria that fights yeast infections.

Researchers have discovered that the body performs well if a zinc/copper balance is in place and the chances of an outbreak is minimal. Too much copper in the bloodstream can do endless harm to the liver and an adrenalin deficiency develops. As the copper levels increase the vital zinc level lowers. When this situation occurs one should avoid foods that contain copper and opt for zinc laden ones instead. This will help bring the overall bodily condition to a more balanced state. Improving the functioning of the liver automatically means that there will be a huge improvement in the skin as well.

Foodstuff that contain considerable amounts of copper are tea, coffee, chocolates and shellfish such as lobster and prawns. Zinc will be found in abundance in meat, eggs and pumpkin seeds. Refined foods such as white sugar is a huge no-no in all health diets and should be avoided like the plague. A cream that has proven to be very effective in treating zits is the ever popular calamine lotion. It is most probably the most inexpensive medication for such a serious problem.
